A dramatic discovery

a-dramatic-discovery

Hi all.

Ok only my second read post, but I like to make sure that I have something great when I do and I am pretty sure I do.

Since finding podcasts all those years ago I have really come to rely on them to get through the weeks. My job can be a lonely existence and podcasting made me feel accompanied on those long drives (and saved on the phone bills) and I guess a lot of my personal style as a podcaster is to try and fulfill that role for others so that you think you have a mate chatting to you. This is very much what Simply Syndicated did for me.

Now one thing I was very late coming to, was the idea of audio books and in fact I never really got there because I found the subject matter of this post first.

I discovered the world of podcast novels, which has now lead me onto podcast audio-dramas, for someone who can never find time to read books, this is wicked!

Before I go any further I need to give credit to SimpSyn’s own oriSTUDFARM for introducing me to Scott Sigler, this was the start point of all of this for me.

I listened to every book he has out as a podcast back to back, ended up following him on Twitter and thanks to one of his posts found the story I want to rave about here. (Trust me you will be hearing more about Mr Sigler in another format soon)

The Leviathan Chronicles!
This is an AMAZING podcast audio drama, that is not a dramatised book, but has been written as a serialised audio production.
Christof Laputka’s vision of this sci-fi earth based drama is refreshing and totally engaging. The characters are written in such as a way that you feel invested in them to such an extent that even the bad guys you end up caring about.
The production values and passion that is poured into every episode is totally apparent, from expert voice direction to great sound design even so far as the backing track music all being bespoke for the podcast.
Those who have listened to our show or the latest Definative word will know of my love for action movies and splosions and stuff…..
well so far in this podcast we have had deep sea combat, air based combat, an audio kung-fu fight, and a motorcycle chase, and cool mechs to name but a few ‘cool’ bits. I am loving it :)

Alongside each episode coming out there is a ‘soapbox’ section where you get to meet Christof and hear just how passionate about Leviathan he is and really helps you to get behind what he is creating in a whole other way. The episodes come out a fair distance apart, but when you listen you will realise why. Coming to it later like myself there are 22 episodes to keep you going for a while.
The plan is for 2 seasons of 25 episodes each and more content being put out between episodes to keep the punters happy. Christof also recommends many of his contemporaries by way of promos and I now have several other audio drama podcasts to get to.

I will stop gushing now and just say go check it out, if after 3 episodes you are not totally hooked well……………… you probably don’t listen to Here Goes Nothing either ;p

I totally agree! I found podiobooks on iTunes a while back and Christof puts out the best by far! It’s like listening to radio plays of the 1950′s but without the cheesy cigarette advertisements. Plus, its sci-fi which is NEVER a bad thing.
