Maybe this will kickstart the 4G revolution in the UK as we can be almost certain that it will be included in the next iPhone.
Hello TIOLI, love the show, I have a suggestion for Rich and his computer woes. I have a '07 iMac, it started crashing and spinning wheel of death galore lately; I got Drive Genius 3, one of its many functions is to scan all the sectors of the HD. It has a checkbox to "spare" bad blocks if found, make sure that is checked before you start the scan. Make sure you have a current backup of your system as well.

I backed up my system in time machine then performed the scan, it found 6 or 7 bad sectors, allocated them as such, then i quit Drive Genius and attempted to re-boot from Lion but it wouldn't, some critical files must have been in the bad sector area. I then did a clean install of Lion, then restored from the TM backup and all has been well! Just an idea to try if you think it's the HD. I think your running Snow Leopard but the process should be the same.

Hope this is helpful.

BA

Listening at the 2012 predictions from you, I hear some very disturbing pessimistic things about the world.

Let's just take one comment, about three competitors in the gameconsole market and that "everytime some company died" in that case.

Not really.

Last time we had this, Sega (vs Sony vs Nintendo) became a software company. That was 2000. Funny thing? Core business of Sega always was games development. Not much has changed since then in that regard.

Before that. Let me think. Atari (vs Sega vs Nintendo), 1992? In that regard, yes, Atari failed. But really, in retrospect there has never been a quality Atari product to begin with. Ask any retro fan. Sure, the 2600 was gangbusters popular, but obviously not a quality console. Okay, the Jaguar was not a bad system, but that failed thanks to... A lack of quality software. Or at least...The Jaguar actually was the first console of which I thought: well, you can play that all on pc...

Nowadays the console which every game is a pc game is obviously the Xbox360. The rest are real consoles. I still can't fathom why the hell you would like to play fps's on consoles and you know what? I haven't played in ten years.

To me therefore it seems the 360 only survives thanks to thrird-party support. And even then there are still awesome games you simply can't play on Xbox, but can on PS3 and Wii. Last Story anyone? Out 24 february overhere in Europe for Wii. Can't play that anywhere else and that's exactly why consoles survive.

The Wii actually has a good amount of excellent console only games: New Super Mario Bros., the Mario Galaxies, the Zelda's, Donkey Kong Country Returns and soon Last Story.

And don't think for a minute that Nintendo basicly make toys. Nintendo consoles are build so you can play Mario & Zelda on 'em. That has always been the case and still is. Yeah, maybe on the handheld, but there are many games on Nintendo consoles that are not suited for kids, especially not English-speaking kids.

Yes, I am once again speaking as a Dutch, but hey! Consoles games - on a few exceptions - are in English in the Netherlands. So, you need to have a basic understanding of English to play a console in this country - at least to follow a story. Not that there is much story in Mario, no, but try playing Final Fantasy or - well - Last Story if you can't speak the language. Get what I mean? We're not the only native-speakers who don't get translated games: mostly the Scandanavians suffer this fate as well. The other way around I guess that why it seems to me Scandavians and Dutch speak better English than other non-native English speakers generally speaking. A nice side-effect, but that's off topic...

Thing is.

Games have never been more popular than now.

Instead of buying a graphics card, you can buy a console like a Playstation or Wii. And then go can access so many excellent games. Okay, you can also play a lot of those excellent games on 360, that's true... But I would only buy a 360 for that 2d fantasy brawler on Arcade and Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night. Yes, C:SotN, which was a playstation game in the first place, get what I mean? That's why I... should have a PS3. Don't have one yet. Still debating wether the price is right for me now or that I still want to wait. But at least I know several games are out on other consoles other than Wii that I really would like to play, chiefly Disgaea 4. And that's PS3-only.

I'm quite sure I'm not the only, basicly, Japan-orientated gamer out there. I don't care for American games, mostly. Well, I did love Red Alert 1 & 2, I'll confess. And Metroid Prime, but really, that's a Japanase idea in origin. I did play Donkey Kong Country (English) and Ray-man (French). Not deliberately, but there's a certain way how non-Americans make games and how Americans make games. And I like 'em un-American. So I don't get why the 360 is so popular...

But back on doomed console companies... There are so many people gaming nowadays, it's unlikely that Nintendo will "die". Actually, Nintendo is an older company than Sony and Microsoft are: they started in 1889. Okay, okay, when did they start making video gameconsoles? 1977. That's again, long before Sony and Microsoft.

And really, the 3DS is not a problem. Remember the DS launch?

Well, the 3DS has managed to sell more units in its first eight months than its predecessor managed to sell in a year!

So no problem there. And even in bitter console times, Nintendo managed to strive through. I mean, it's not like Nintendo has the less popular home console before: the gamecube was actually a far less popular console than the Wii (worldwide 21 million sold vs almost 95 million and counting). And Nintendo survived. Gamecube survived.

And by the way, there are almost twice as much Wi''s sold now than Super Nintendo's...

No, Nintendo will survice.

And Sony as well. 62 million PS3's sold so far worldwide. Vs 66 Million 360's.

Really, I can't see any argument why Nintendo nor Sony's next console will be doomed. Except if you're solely looking through American eyes. Well, shocker: Japan is a pretty huge country, Europe is pretty big (and if I'm not mistaken here is PS more popular than Xbox) and don't forget the emerging markets as well... Mostly Asian, now really, would they want to play an Xbox? I think not. So there.
