I know in the previous incarnation of the forums I suggested Bon Jovi.  To that I would like to add Nightwish.  I got their new album 'Imaginarium' and am really digging it.

I would like to suggest a female vocalist special. If an album is worth reviewing, it'll be done regardless of the singers sex. So not an album show. I would suggest a female vocalist Valentine special or something...Each of you brings 5 songs with a female vocalist for the others to criticise...erm review.

I would suggest Joan Jett, Snake River Conspiracy, Otep. Stuff like that...

Stone Temple Pilots if they haven't been done before? I'm digging STP a lot at the moment!

Man, I must have played that CD (1997) 500 times.  Just a lil' rock band outta Chicago, their first CD was a big enough hit that they got Bob Rock (Metallica) to produce "Eight Arms to Hold You".  Sorta like AC/DC with Nina Gordon and Louise Post in place of the Young brothers.  Rock with a bit of pop and slightly heavy.

    From "Eight Arms...", "Shutterbug":

    From "Eight Arms...", "Volcano Girls":

...for what it's worth, I think Louise Post is stunning...she's the  brunette...

That's interesting for sure.  Not sure how I feel about it yet, I think more research is in order.

I concur with your assessment of Louise Post

Dunno if this was suggested in the old forums but what is the FTATRies view on Biffy Clyro's 2009 "Only Revolutions"
Totally love this album, there's only 1 track that I find a bit weak sauce, the majority are gold. Plus it's one of the only rock bands that I can sing along to without affecting a mid-atlantic twang

Cooper Temple Clause -  Kick Up the Fire, and Let the Flames Break Loose, Always liked this album wouldn't mind hearing the guys review it :)
  • I think you guys should do an Iron Maiden album. You've only covered two and they've got loads more!
  • I think LARD's Last Temptation of Reid could provide some hilarious fodder for the show.
  • Would The Macc Lads Beer & Sex & Chips 'n' Gravy be too much off the beaten track?

OOOhhh The Macc Lads...saw them live in Glasgow, t'was very....entertaining. Not sure if their albums stand the test of time though

Man, this guy knows what he's talking about!  You've gotta do "Number of the Beast" or "Piece of Mind" next.  If I'm not mistaken, you've already done "The Final Frontier" and "Powerslave", correct?

Hey, since y'all opened the door to guys like Bryan Adams, how about a Barry Manilow/Air Supply special?
    =))
  • Well, they did do Meatloaf, so Air Supply is a legitimate option since Jim Steinman wrote one of their biggest hits.

Ah, but Kentucky Woman was a Neil Diamond song that Deep Purple rocked.

  • New forum, so guess its time to suggest these two again hope!

I wouldn't say no to either of them Gazza. If you have them, send them, we'll do em.

    image

Here is a picture of me wearing my Iron Maiden T-Shirt. It was bought for me by somebody who thought "Antony likes metal...I'll buy him this". And I wear it ironically.....That is to say the iron hadn't touched any of my other t-shirts and so I put this one on. So even though I am happy to walk around in an Iron Maiden T-shirt, I must voice my opinion of "Please, enough Iron Maiden already! I have tried to get into them on numerous occasions. The trouble is....and I mean this as politely as it can possibly be taken..but .they are a bit wank aren't they!?"
  • If Stu actually bothered to read these forums he would be very dissapointed in you Ori.
  • I think I lost him as a fan a long while ago on the FTATR Facebook page. I criticised his choice of cover songs or something....I forget now.

Sometimes, it's all about upsetting the hosts though. Don't you think? It's their own faults for still not realising how much greater than Trek The Wars still is  :-bd
  • Ori... A bit wank? A BIT WANK?!!!!!!!! I officially ban you from wearing your Iron Maiden T-shirt even if you plan to continue wearing it ironically. Boo to you sir! I choose to believe that the photo you posted shows you having fallen over after you realised just how wrong you are!

Though you are, of course, allowed to hold your own opinion.

..... Even if that opinion is completely wrong and calls into question in my eyes the validity of anything else you say or do EVER AGAIN! :P

Plus Mechanical_Bowl - if that is your real name - I do read the forums (nowadays) who do you think FTATRStu is? It wasn't that cunning a code name!

Ori again... You did criticise my choices on my cover show. My feelings were badly bruised on that fateful day. Plus Trek and Wars can't really be compared because the only thing they have in common is that they're set in space...

... I hold my breath for a huge amount of stick for that comment...

... and are thus too different for one to be considered better. Though if they were to be compared Trek would win because Hayden Christensen wasn't in it. I despise that man for taking the BEST PART EVER and being shite at it.

So in summary, Fuck you all.

    Please keep enjoying the show.

    But still... Fuck you all.

I think I may have sent The Damned Things' CD in...
  • I imagined that rant in Dave Mustaine voice.

  • Sonofabitch!!!!!! :D
  • Moment of seriousness now.

    Firstly. I do not
really think Maiden are "a bit wank". I do struggle to see what the massive appeal is about sometimes. Some songs I like a little bit. But most are just "meh" to me. I'm just not a fan of that "wailing" style of singing or the "squiggly wiggley" guitar. I have nothing against it...it's just not to my tastes.

Secondly. You guys could review the sound my smoke alarm makes when the battery dies. I would probably still listen and most definitely still enjoy it...but don't. Please.

It's just fun to have friendly banter...and with that in mind, I have to add that Stu's covers were really really shit though. I like a good cover...but Stu's just weren't good!

I just want to put it out there that I like it when Stu yells the word he's not supposed to say

    and when he sings

    so...

there's that. Tally me to support "camp obnoxious"!

I don't know. My smoke detector is "a bit plinky-plunky" for my tastes.  I'd prefer early Einsterzende Neubaten for my machine-music.

Ah awesome! :D Will hopefully be able to send them a long soon!
  • The album I would most like to see you cover is Cortizone- "Selling Out For The Sucker".

Amazing album from 2001....shame the band split up as this is my most returned to album of any I've bought in my whole life (with the exception of Beastie Boys "Licensed to Ill" and Public Enemy "It Takes A Nation of Million")

The whole album can be played through (or so it looks) at
    http://www.allmusic.com/album/selling-out-for-the-sucker-r544647

Or, I can get that to you one way
    or another wink wink

  • Stu

You prefer Trek to Wars and love Maiden.

    I think you need help.

I absolutely love how much Stu loves Maiden. That's about as bad, though, as when your boss starts a conversation with, "I really admire your passion..."

I'm an orignal Black Sabbath fan.  There is something so earthy (pun intended), and dirgy and messy about Sabbath that seems the opposite of Iron Maiden.  And that's always made them a hurdle for me.

Does that mean I find Maiden's music to be transcendent, upbeat, and clean and crisp? No, but I'd understand why anyone would pick those antonyms.

So ... Type O Negative? I'm sad but sure there is an "anniversary of death" coming up in a few months.

Good old Pete. We really should cover Type O. Ok GAB i'll check up on his anniversary and we'll make the whole thing fly.
  • Oh yes please!!! I can't wait to hear Joe's opinion on Type O ;)

Also Gazza I listened to Volbeat after catching a track on my last FM.
They are cheesy as hell but I adore their style. I would gladly stick my fat nose in on that show ;)
  • There is definately something about Volbeat that I can't not like, but I can't figure out what it is.
Would definately like to here what the guys think about Demons & Wizards after listening to the Blind Guardian and Iced Earth episodes back to back
  • How about Flick of the Switch by ACDC or the new album by The Answer, Revival?

Having listened to the Cream episode I just want to apologize profusely for hurting Stu's feelings.

Please do return to your very serious musical reviews. I promise you're not obnoxious at all.

All kidding aside, I continue to listen to FTATR despite not really being interested in most of the bands you review... What entertains me is the podcaster variable and not the musical variable. You insulted my favorite band and I still laugh like a fool when I'm listening to the show in public! Like Ori said, you could review an alarm klaxon and I'd still giggle and tweet my favorite one-liners. I like Camp Obnoxious!
  • The only person on the show who might back me up on this is Will, but what about a Billy Joel special???

You know I read this as 'Billy Ray Cyrus special', don't ask me why, it probably says it all about me. That's an interesting one John, can't promise anything but the seeds planted.

And Ari, don't worry about Stu's feelings, he loves the attention. Isn't that right Stu?

You haven't covered enough Leeds bands, how about Sisters of Mercy?
  • Their should be a Who special since The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, and the Beatles have been done.

Also liking the wankers den segment.

The Who is a cracking idea, particularly if you do their live album Live at Leeds (shoehorning in the Leeds connection again).

I'm not a fan of live albums, as they remind me i'm not at the gig with a middle finger salute. The backing vocals always seem to be "nah nah nah, you're not here, nah nah nah". So we won't be doing Who Live From Leeds (i've heard enough plaudits from my Dad over the years). We will do a Who special though. You'll just have to wait. And as for Sisters Of Mercy, they're good fun, we'll get our electro goth on a some point.
Scapegoat are you by any chance from Leeds? I know it's tough when we are made famous by Soft Cell and Mel B. And before some bright spark says 'what about the Kaiser Chiefs', well, you know what you can do....
  • I like the idea of The Sisters. It's well within remit since the 'Adams Incident', and Floodland is one of the great albums of the Eighties - but there are promises to keep before we get there!

Bon Jovi or women, gentlemen. It's the question that all men must face one day. Bon Jovi or women? As I've been listening to Castle, Boris and Blood Ceremony a lot recently, I favour women. Imagine that Tony Iommi had decided to stay with Jethro Tull back in '68, then they had hired Mandy Morton to sing - that's basically Blood Ceremony. What's not to like about that?

I can't remember if it's been done, but if not then a Joe Satriani show? I think he's wicked. Everyone can enjoy it, easy listening, fun jamming sessions. Can't get much better surely?

I've been in Leeds for the past 20 years, and it is a bit of a wasteland for "big" rock names but originally I'm from Oldham which is only famous for The Inspiral Carpets and that little bloke from Take That so Leeds doesn't seem so bad in comparison.
