John Landis's son Max - who seems to have made an impressive entry of his own into cinema by scripting "Chronicle", has some thoughts about the epochal "Death of Superman" storyline. He'd like to share them with us. This video is also fun to spot the numerous cameos. This is NSFW.

It was pretty funny. I don't think hate is sending any hate towards comics. I think he is just throwing some criticism towards that event. Lot of criticism I've known about so it is all old news to me. Though he wasn't the first death in comics, Phoenix Jean Grey died and then returned six years later, Captain America's sidekick Bucky was killed during WWII and then just returned a few years ago. Hell Bucky seemed to have died in an issue of Fear Itself, but turns out Nicky Fury brought him back. Captain America was killed and brought back, but Marvel took their time with it and let the newly alive Bucky become Captain America for a while.  And Barry Allen The Flash sacrificed himself in the Crisis On Infinite Earth story event but then was brought back during the Final Crisis event a few years ago.

But I think Superman being of a more popular, mainstream world wide, character, he is that one people took notice. His death seemed significant to many even myself at the time. And with that success There were other things DC did at the time to sell more comics. Batman had his back broken by Bain, Green Lantern went crazy and then sacrifice himself during The Final Night story but then was brought back fully in Green Lantern: Rebirth. Recently Batman was gone after Final Crisis but really he was just traveling through time.

I've heard it discuss many times in comics podcast that death in comics doesn't really mean anything these days. Lot of it is just publishers trying to boost up sales or try to tie them into an event, then when it is over, the character is brought back. The latest death and return was The Human Torch Johnny Storm who seemed dead but was just lost in the Negative Zone. I think there will be more but I don't think it will have the impact it once did or the impact Superman had. it is pretty much a ploy at this point.
