Episode 1
  • The final "man with no name" film was, arguably, Unforgiven.

I'd rather see a sequel to Breakfast Club than a Ferris sequel. Even with there being a role-reversal with Cameron and Ferris, how interesting could it actually be? Actually, you'd probably want to combine Breakfast Club, Ferris and Say Anything into a giant "where are they now" film. Maybe the Karate Kid and Footloose too.

I'm pretty sure a BTTF reboot could have the kid going back to 1985. Which is perfect. They could even have Family Ties on the TV in one scene.

Really loved the new show guys, Having just re-watched the HD version of total recall I can only agree with Rich regarding the look. Still a fun movie but one that I am looking forward to a remake. I kind of thought that I would like to see Back to The Future as an animated series or perhaps as a stand alone animated where they are now.... or is that a really terrible idea?

Haha you have convinced me Shane, not my best idea!
  • Love the show!

I remember that BTTF cartoon.  When I was young, I thought it was great.  Now, not so much.  The discussion about what movie they first saw in the theater had me trying to figure out what my first theater film was.  I THINK it was Addams Family, but I can't be certain.

Anyway, keep it up! I look forward to listening.

    Agreed great show loved it!!

I think my first movie was Oliver and Company... I certainly remember loving that film when I was young!

  • My first was Star Wars.

If you mean an indoor cinema I want to say Return of the Pink Panther, as that's the earliest one I remember seeing in an actual cinema, but we used to go to the drive in a lot when I was little. My mom would make a grocery bag full of popcorn, put my brother and me in our jammies, and back the station wagon up so we could lay down in the back and watch the movie. 101 Dalmations is the earliest one I remember, though I know we saw Barbarella at some point, but I slept through most of it.  Star Wars was the first movie my brother and I were allowed to go to by ourselves.

Barbarella would be a pretty unbelievable first movie, although at that age it would be boring no doubt.

The first movie for me that I remember was at home on Sunday afternoon TV.  It was Gorgo, and I really like that.  Sci-Fi black-n-white monster film set in England. Good times.

Like AdmMarius, I have early drive-in memories that proceed my first movie theater memory by years.  I believe the oldest was The Jungle Book, and it may have been a double-feature with a re-issue of A Shot in the Dark (Inspector Clouseau).

The first indoor theater I recall -- although it probably wasn't the first -- was The Andromeda Strain.  I know I slept through parts of it, but I was wide awake for the exciting finish. I'll always have a soft spot for that film.
  • My earliest memory of cinema is my Dad taking me to see Superman. I was too young really and all I have is a very vivid memory of the burglar climbing up the side of the building and hitting Christopher Reeves boots.

The next trip to the cinema was to see Flash Gordon with my Aunt and two Cousins....I loved that!

...and the next time was when I was old enough to take myself. Movies didn't really feature in my childhood. I remember my parents shouting me down from bed to see the end of ET which they had put on whilst doing some financial books for my Mum's job. They had hired it from the video shop and not realised it was a kids movie. Hired movies were never for the kids!!! ....I saw it from where ET came back from the dead....so, not much of it. But I absolutely loved what little I saw.

I had never heard of Star Wars until Return Of the Jedi was released. I saw ROTJ first at a mates on a poor quality VHS. I then saw Star Wars when it aired and I don't think I saw ESB until I was about 14 or 15....of course, I knew everything about it by then. All my toys were Star Wars and I had SW clothes and SW books and....well, everything. All of which my parents gave away when I was 16....THE BASTARDS!

Jedi was my first Star Wars film too Ori. You and I are the same age I think and I guess in 1980 our folks considered us still to be a little young for Empire. But in 1983 we were introduced to a well-built gangster by the name of Jabba The Hutt, and our world's changed ... forever.

I support this paragraph with all my heart.

The earliest I trip to the cinema I remember is The Jungle Book. It came out in 1967 but they must have been still screening it in 1980 or 81 when I was 5 or 6. Actually, 13 years is about how long it used to take films to reach NZ, so maybe I saw it in first run after all. Unlike GAB I saw it in indoors, in a beautiful, classic old theatre which still stands but only shows films during festivals these days. My beloved mad Aunty Bess and crazy Uncle Tom took me.

They're still awesome and Bare Necessities is still one of my favourite songs of all time.

I'm glad to see we picked a topic that resonates with folks :D
  • What exactly was the "topic" and please explain the name of the show.

You say that, but I haven't actually listened yet. You inconsiderately released it on my first day off work and I won't be back until tuesday...you really should have checked you know!! :)

I haven't a clue what this new podcast is about. I'm so confident that I will like it though, I will be placing it highly on tuesdays podcast playlist...
  • You're all so old.

I think my first film was Toy Story 2, at least that is the one I remember.

I liked that BTTF cartoon. I probably wouldn't now. We used just used to giggle that the children were called Jules and Verne, just like we had a little giggle about that in the movie. Like "Wooh look a pop culture reference". Except if you replace "pop culture" with um, "literature".

I think my first movie was a re- release of Cinderella I think. Either that or All dogs go to Heaven which has traumatised me for life (I may have been born in the '80s but I spent lots of time repressing all the memories of said time.)

  • Got the total wrong end of the stick with this show....I'd assumed (wrngly) that it was Jason and Jakob's show...Didn't realise it was a Rich and Jason...
  • I thought it was awesome, I really love how Jason and Rich summarized half of the reason why podcasts exist: nostalgia. Combine that with two kick-ass hosts and you've got a good show in my books.

  • What, Ori? God, I barely have time to get one podcast out these days.
  • I did wonder...

That's the thing about geekery and other nerdish tendencies. Never satisfied are we :) (except for not having anyone but Ricardo Montalban to play Khan)

Following on from the whole 'The Last Starfighter' discussion on the show, please could someone remake 'The Phantom Menace' and the other Star Wars prequels so that they are less mind numbingly awful. 3D doesn't count. I won't be going to see it. Family Guy should tap up the prequels, having done a parody of Episodes 4, 5 and 6. Thoughts?

Could their be a podcast on parodies and skits based on our favourite shows and movies? Is there enough interest in that?

Just in case, I think the side link in the main page for remastered is broken.
  • My first movie was with my mom who took me to see a re-released Snow White at the Tivoli theater in Downers Grove IL.  A 1928 theater with 1400 seats that was the second in the US to  show talking movies.

Back in the day when I was a kid, they would show second run movies here a few weeks after they left the first run theaters.  Tickets were only $1.50.  Today they still show second run movies, which in a digital world means no more scratches or poppy sound.  Saw Hugo there in 3D in Jan and that only cost $6 ($2 more than non-3D films).   They now also host live music shows here, Poi Dog Pondering played not to long ago, and even get celebrities to come in for classic screenings of older films.  Besides it's history and rarity as a theater today it will also always hold a special place for me because it is also where I saw my last movie with my mom while back on a visit to the states a few years ago.

There is another one of these era theaters in Chicago that has clouds projected onto the ceiling as the movie plays and move across the domed ceiling.

I remember my parents taking me and my sister to see that movie.  We got there a little late, just as the 2 hr opening credits were zooming on the screen and we had to sit in the front row.  Needless to say my 7 yr old self did not mind in the least being that close to a super sized Superman.
  • I'm just happy because that makes you older than me :)
