The Site Went DOWN Last Night UPDATE UPDATED

Last night (for the UK anyway) Simply Syndicated went down. I'm still waiting for more information from HostICan but what I know so far is that we were drawing around 9mb/sec of bandwidth from the server. Apparently that's a lot. At the moment I think it's something to do with the Simply Hear feed as the site went down shortly after the new episode of The Definitive Word was posted. That means everybody hits the simplyhear.xml file at the same time and crashes the site. Maybe.

As a result of that I have shortened the Simply Hear feed to around 30 back episodes so that the xml file is far smaller. I'll let you know more as I find out more. If this keeps happeneing I'll have to start looking at different hosting providers and maybe move the site.

**UPDATE**

Turns out we were the victims of a DDoS attack. I don't know what to do about that. Everything seems to be back to normal and HostICan are doing their best to limit the effects of the attack.

Tech support said

"Your server was / is under attack. The attack is known as DDoS, we are working on limiting it to try to
limit its impact on your hosting account.

However, for now it seems your site is working fine."

** FURTHER UPDATE**

In conclusion everything is fine now. Wrapped up with...

"It happens once in a while, they come out of the blue and then go... nothing you did
wrong per say, just someone with nothing better to do out there, then to cause problems.
Don't worry about it."

Thanks to the guys at HostICan for helpping us out.
