Oh Rick, while I know I heard the jist of this episode I fear I was extremely agitated by your news. I have become quite the fan of the new Dr. Who & am just beside myself that it is going to be on BBC America, not Sci Fi (I guess none of you have been watching the channel lately, they been advertising the change to Sy Phi, gag0. Anyway, I can not afford anything more than basic cable, which means no more Dr. Who. In fact I am so distressed that I felt compelled to go to The BBC America site & tell them how much I think they suck for depriving so many of the opportunity to continue watching. Augh!!!!!

On the Seven of Nine character improving Voyager: I’ve never been of the opinion that 7 of 9 (aka: 36 of D) was a positive addition to the series beyond the visual. It just never washed that she could ever be the least bit interested in reclaiming her humanity, and the idea that she *would* be able to was… well… a crock. She was simply too young when she’d been assimilated and had been a Borg too long to ever regain her humanity. In psychological and developmental terms, it was just flat out too late for her to be anything but Borg from the point she was assimilated on.

I’ll tell you what, a much more likely scenario for the character would have been that, during some in depth studies of of humanity (know your enemy after all) she would have come across the concept of Stockholm Syndrome, realized she was suffering from a textbook case of it, and would have in extremely short order proceeded to take over the entire ship and turned the whole lot over to the first cube she’d been able to contact.

Like practically everything else regarding Voyager, the writers squandered the opportunity to do something really ballsy with character to make her truly, instead of just superficially, interesting.
