One of the reasons Babylon 5 dropped from public consciousness is that it is not shown in syndication. You can only get it on DVD. Star Trek, on the other hand, was shown in reruns for years.

Kennedy mentioned the 5 year arc but that it continued for 2 years after that. What? There was the spinoff series Crusade which, like B5, started slow. It was just reaching a point where the story was going to head in a completely different direction when it was canceled.

Check out The Babylon Podcast. They discuss each episode in great detail. In episodes 161 and 162 they have an interview with the creator which explains some of the issues with the show, including the B5/DS9 links. The show was taken to Paramount but not bought, and then strangely enough DS9 came out. A space station near a wormhole (similar to a jumpgate) with lots of political machinations. Hmmm.

I was a huge star trek fan for TNG, then once I saw B5 couldn’t watch trek any more. I couldn’t get into DS9, couldn’t stand Voyager. I have recently started getting into Enterprise and am loving it.

Keep up the great podcast. You are now in my top 5 shows.

Thanks, Kent. We’d love to tackle B5 at some point but that will take some watching, and some of us have to work through Stargate first. Watching Stargate makes me want to watch TNG again, which I end up doing, so this might take some time … I’m glad you like what we’re doing, and I look forward to hearing from you again.

Karen, I’m with you, I loved Zena!! It really pissed me off that Oxygen bought it & basically buried it. I don’t know if your it Joseph Cambell (The Power of Myth) but I thought the story arc fit So perfectly into the traditional myth, except this time we finally got to see it portrayed by a woman. Loved the stories, the characters & especially loved the props!! (Rick can explain). And you are right about Calysto.

    Great show BTW

Now that the season has started up again I plan to catch up on some of your shows that I have missed. Still on dial-up at home (starving artist) so I have to wait until I get to the theatre to listen.

Still waiting for the special guest Rick hinted at in his blog!
